A story within a story opens in 1968 with a preface to the diary, and closes with an epilogue written in 1984. The diary portrays the 1848 revolution, it’s author’s affair with Eugene Delacroix and her eventual exile in Algeria, but halfway through the diary a modern voice emerges in the footnotes. The text appears to be annotated by a former Berkeley radical, herself living underground in New York. The Colorist
Colorist and inker lose their jobs when the comic company they have worked for phase out their character, a super-heroine, Electra. They continue to draw their own version of the comic while working at a variety of jobs for constructing museum reproductions to potential art forgeries. Storytown
The characters in these stories restore or duplicate art objects (legally or otherwise), dub dialogue for foreign films, look to old movies for guidance, and listen to the proto speech of killer whales. The title story (based on a legendary amusement park in upstate New York), a woman works at a children’s theme park, where Alice in Wonderland mourns for the Sheriff of Nottingham who has enlisted in the marines. |
